About KDU
About KDU:
The Kansas Defender Union (KDU) will be a union for Kansas Board of Indigents’ Defense Services (BIDS) workers, and will be affiliated with the national United Auto Workers (UAW). The union will be open to all attorneys, investigative staff, and administrative workers who are not “management” or “confidential employees” under Kansas law. The union will eventually bargain with agency leadership in a way that binds the agency to certain funding proposals and policy improvements. KDU’s members will vote on and set its agenda for bargaining. However, KDU’s broad goals are to ensure fair and equitable compensation, increase transparency, and improve working conditions. Our goal is work collaboratively with management whenever possible. We believe that fair agreements to protect and help BIDS workers will help and protect the clients we represent.
We are currently counting support among BIDS employees so that we can achieve recognition, which is required for us to advocate collectively on behalf of BIDS workers. Please explore this website for more information about everything related to KDU, the UAW, and unions in general. If you are a BIDS employee and want to support these efforts, it’s important that we count you! Please contact us via the form below, or send an email to kansasPDunion@gmail.com.
